Causes for Community Spin-Yoga

Causes for Community Spin-Yoga
Every Sunday NOON
Qi Athletic Club
2636 Walnut St., Denver
303.593.1593

Spin-yoga. It does a body good. On Sundays at noon, it also does our community good! Want to be part of a growing Denver movement that’s taking yoga off the mat and into the world? Then check out Causes for Community Spin-Yoga.

It all started in early 2010. Qi Athlectic Club member Deb Ferraro was in the midst of teacher training.

“In January, I was holding practice spin classes at Qi for my friends, just to get better at teaching,” Deb says. “One of my friends was raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, so one day during breakfast, we talked about holding a donation-based class to help her.”

This idea quickly blossomed into something bigger, and Deb reached out to Qi owner Chris Lindley: If the initial class was successful, would Qi support a regular series of donation-based classes? Chris enthusiastically gave Qi’s support, and the first Causes for Community spin-yoga class was held on February 7th.

“I am so impressed by those who selflessly raise money for various causes,” Deb says. “I may not have the disposable income to donate or be able to commit a lot of time to raise money for causes, but I am able to hold a weekly spin-yoga class as a creative and fun way to help others raise money. It’s also my way of saying, ‘thank you,’ for the generous and dedicated support that others selflessly give to charity.”

Since February, Causes for Community has been raising money for various non-profit causes. Every Sunday, Deb leads a donation-based spin-yoga class, and 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the selected charity. There is no minimum or maximum donation level, and cash and checks are accepted. Participants do not need to be a member of Qi to take part in the classes. As an added bonus, participants have a chance to win a gift certificate or prize at each class from local and sustainable businesses like Snooze, Rio Grande, Jonesy’s, Olivéa, Root Down, Beatrice and Woodsley’s, and Wahoo’s.

“We really do appreciate this local support, which allows Causes for Community to encourage people to do something good for themselves while helping out the community,” Deb says.

The class is growing, and Deb is increasingly excited to learn more about the fundraising efforts in the Denver community. Thus far, Causes for Community has benefited The Children’s Hospital, American Red Cross, National MS Society, Hope Connects, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Yoga for the People, Hearts to Haiti, and ICAN. There are so many awesome causes in the community, Deb never has to seek them out. In fact, she says, the causes come to her. If you have a cause you’d like Causes for Community to support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Contact Deb through Qi’s downtown Denver location, or visit the Causes for Community Facebook Page.

Spin-yoga is a great workout and an easy introduction to yoga. The class combines 30 minutes on the spin bike and is followed by 30 minutes of yoga (vinyasa stretch flow). It is a complete mind-body workout that is totally unique, and on Sundays at noon, you can spin-yoga your way to a better, brighter Denver.

Reboot Yourself with Yoga and Beach Bootcamp Retreat

Everyone needs and deserves a vacation. Often, when planning a vacation, we get excited about all of the excess we are about to experience—excess food, drink, and late nights. These vacations are fantastic, but often leave no room for the mind, body, and soul to be restored. That’s why Denver yoga

powerhouse Qi Athletic Club and Seasons Mind & Body Fitness invite you on a vacation that will breathe life into your whole body.

We’ve all heard the quote by Elbert Hubbard: “No man needs a vacation so much as the person who has just had one.” Vacations that are meant to restore, often actually deplete and further run down the body. This year, consider giving yourself a vacation to reboot your system—one that fills each day with yoga, fitness, whole foods, and friends, all taking place at the most amazing cerulean blue waters and white sandy beaches you can imagine.

Between March 7th and March 12th, 2010, Qi and Seasons will be heading off into the sunsets of Tulum, Mexico. For five glorious days, staff and members will enjoy everything that eco-friendly, luxury resort Ocho Tulum at Blue Tulum has to offer. You can recharge and restore while taking your fitness and yoga practice to the next level.

The price for this five-night vacation is $1950 (discounts available for Qi members, please inquire at any Qi location), and it includes the following:
• accommodations
• meals
• transportation
• a spa treatment
• tours
• swimming at several cenotes (beautiful pools of ground water in the Yucatán)
• guided tour of the Mayan Ruins of Tulum
• 2 yoga classes and 1 beach boot camp every day (classes tailored toward all fitness levels)

Participants are responsible for booking their own flights into Cancun, Mexico. Direct flights are available from Denver on Frontier, and at present, cost approximately $400. Travel time from Denver on a non-stop is less than four hours.

Take advantage of this time to treat yourself to an amazing vacation and wellness getaway. Just fly into Cancun and then Qi and Seasons will take care of the rest! Workshops! Workshops! Workshops!

In an effort to help you create the body and mind that you dream of, Seasons is
offering several workshops over the next few weeks. All workshops are taught by
Seasons instructors, who are the best in the Denver yoga and Denver fitnessimages community. There is something for everyone, including mothers-to-be, children, and yogis who wish to deepen their practice physically and spiritually.

Pre-natal Workshop
Saturday, February 13th
Qi Yoga City Park
1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
$35 per individual or $45 per couple

Moms-to-be, you can create a deeper connection to your baby through yoga. Simply setting the intention to practice yoga in order to benefit your pregnancy will strengthen the bond between mother and child. Bring your partner and strengthen the bond between everyone. Yoga during pregnancy will also create a healthier mom and baby, a smoother pregnancy, and can promote healthier deliveries.

Yoga is a perfect way for pregnant women to become more in tune with their bodies. Pregnancy women are very sensitive to all of the body changes, and yoga can help ease the transitions. The yoga flow instructed in this workshop will include modifications for postures and poses to relieve common pregnancy-related disorders, such as swelling, back and leg pain, and insomnia. Meditation, visualization, relaxation and pranayama exercises will help with labor.

The benefits of yoga during pregnancy are many: relaxation, a deeper sense of well being, a deeper body awareness, heightened intuition, a stronger connection to the present moment, circulation stimulation, stress reduction, relief from chronic pain, increased flexibility, and the strengthening of major muscles that support a pregnant body.

Parents are welcome to attend class, but are encouraged to use the time to work out, run errands, have a cup of coffee, or just relax. Class size is limited to 20 students so sign up now!

Join Raven for the Flow Sessions Sunday, December 13th

The Flow Sessions: Check it out tomorrow!

The Flow Sessions: Check it out tomorrow!

Whether or not we realize it, we are all in the process of transformation. The Flow Sessions aim to honor that. The Flow Sessions is a unique yoga experience born from the collaboration between Raven Roth, a favorite Qi instructor and core member of the Denver yoga community, and DJ Uplifter. The result is a class atmosphere where yoga and music co-exist, combine, and create a presence based off of the collective energy of the class participants.

“DJ Uplifter and I have been playing with this idea ever since I put together Health 4 Humanity,” Raven says. “Classes with a live DJ went so well!  In our last Flow Session, the students’ commented that they felt the music flowed with the class and poses instead of them flowing to the music. We want to create a moment in time between the teacher, student, and musician.”

Sunday, December 13 at 12 p.m., the next installment of the Flow Sessions will take place. The goal: to open the seven main chakras in the body via the fusion between live music, guided meditation, and yoga asanas, or poses.

“Each chakra vibrates to different sound vibrations, such as keynotes D, G, and E,” Raven says. “Energy work and music creation will cause an intermingling of all of the senses in the body, mind, and soul. It is the ultimate compliment to the asansa. This class will deepen our understanding of ourselves and our energy process.”

The hour-and-a-half class is open to all levels of students and will be divided in segments consisting of guided meditation and yoga flow. All are welcome to stay after class for a little socializing. Other than a mat, towel, and water, participants need only an open mind and willingness to have fun.

“I truly believe that every person choosing to be a part of the class is affecting the dynamic,” Raven says. “We will collectively create a safe environment to explore our inner world and outer limits through the yoga poses and carefully chosen music.”

Raven will be leading the class along with two adjusters: Meghan Sullivan, also from Qi, and Robyn Reno, an instructor with CorePower Yoga.  The class will be held at the Walnut Room, 3131 Walnut Street Denver. Cost is $20. For advance tickets, please call 303.292.0529.
